Hillside Residence construction progress

Construction of the Sisters of Providence’s new 36-unit elder affordable housing project, called Hillside Residence, got underway on August 20, 2018. Western Builders from Granby, Mass., the general contractor, has subcontracted with many local firms with a goal of completing the construction within approximately 12 months.

Hillside Residence is located at 100 Hillside Circle on the de Paul Center campus, 2112 Riverdale Street in West Springfield. A ceremonial groundbreaking for the $9.25 million dollar project took place at the site on May 18. Photos below were taken from the rooftop of the de Paul Center.

By November 29, 2018, footings and foundation were in place and workers had started framing a major section of the building’s outside walls. During this same time period, backfill and gravel were trucked in to improve the drainage around the building, the work areas and construction exit.

By February 14, 2019, the workers had completed the building’s elevator shaft, installed windows, readied the roof for its shingles, and were building the cupola. The project’s heating, plumbing, electrical and fire safety contractors now are working inside with temporary heating installed.
