Staff lauded for how they carry sponsors mission forward

At the request of Providence Place’s Executive Director Richard Pelland, Sister Madeleine Joy met with Providence Place’s dietary staff at the start of a staff training session held at 4 p.m. on March 27 in the Kingston Dining Room. Sister Madeleine told the staff that even before moving into Providence Place herself a year and a half ago she had “heard wonderful things about your service here” and has “found it to be true.”


 

After first sharing some of her own history of service, particularly her current ministry to grandparents raising grandchildren, she said she wanted staff to know “…how pleased the Sisters of Providence are to see you carrying out our mission of service to others. Our mission,” she went on, “is about what we do for others, but most especially how we do it. And you really do it beautifully. You are to be commended,” she said, “for the special way you attend to each resident.”

Staff member Ana Cruz found Sister Madeleine’s input inspiring. “As Sister described her (own) ministry, I thought it amazing how she continues to contribute her time to help people. I came away thinking that was pretty rare, pretty special, and I appreciate that in her.” Cruz added, “When Sister complimented the staff it made me super happy to know that my work does not go unnoticed. I try to give the best service I can each day and to treat people with the respect they deserve. And I look forward to work for that reason. It is very rewarding!”

Pelland said Sister Madeleine held the staff’s full attention when she was with them, “especially as she talked about how important the way they do their work matters, and that the kindness and caring shown by all the staff is truly remarkable and appreciated by the Sisters and all the residents at Providence Place.”
